CORNOVIRUS EXCLUSIONS ON TRAVEL INSURANCE

As of March 11^th, 2020, the Coronavirus Outbreak Worldwide has spread exponentially. As a precaution, most travel insurance companies are not offering any protection for anything associated with travel disruptions and delays that are associated with or attributable to anything to do with the Coronavirus Covid-19.

CUT-BACKS ON TRAVEL INSURANCE COVER.

That does not mean to say you can’t get travel insurance. Most travel insurance companies are just amending existing policies so that you can’t claim from them if flights are cancelled under the travel disruption clause and you are likely to have to buy or pay for your return from that country.

THE ABANDONMENT CLAUSE IN TRAVEL INSURANCE

If your flight is cancelled and you are stuck in a foreign country that has become the subject of a foreign office warning, you would not be covered under many of the travel insurance policies currently available on the market.

You could then put in a claim under a different clause called the abandonment clause. That would cover some costs that couldn’t be covered by the airlines. 

PACKAGE HOLIDAY TRAVEL INSURANCE.

Airlines are doing all they can to cope with the disruptions and no fly zones and countries and they will try and get you back once flights return to normal. You may be in lockdown or even self-quarantine in your country of travel. 

Your tour operator should be able to offer a refund or a rebooking, or at least get you home. 

THE CORONAVIRUS COVID -19 EXCLUSION.

The Coronavirus exclusion for Travel Insurance states that it “will not cover  any loss, damage, liability, cost or expense of whatever nature directly or indirectly caused by, arising out of, contributed to by, or resulting from the Coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak.” 

Some Travel insurance companies are no longer offering any form of Travel insurance whatsoever, to mitigate the costs of any existing claims that may be made on their policies and other Travel insurance firms are likely to follow suit.
